* 350-52 Parkside Avenue – a 1907 duplex rowhouse, located between Flatbush Avenue and Bedford Avenue, this structure was built upon the farmland of the first Vanderbilt to emigrate to the Dutch colonies in the 1600s. A holding of the Vanderbilt/Bergen families until well into the late 1800s, the land would only be targeted by speculators and developers near to the turn of the century. Constructed by a brewer, over time No. 350-52 would attract and produce a string of soon-to-be famous characters, including the Consul General to Bolivia, a future candy technician who helped to develop Lucky Strike cigarettes, the president and owner of the Brooklyn Dodgers, President Ronald Reagan’s Secretary of Education, and President Bill Clinton’s personal attorney.
